    BOSTON - Over 1000 peace activists and #OccupyBoston protestors held "March and Rally to Stop the Endless Wars at Home and Abroad" yesterday. The marchers kicked off the action outside the Park St. MBTA station and passed the downtown Hyatt hotel, and the Bank of America and Verizon buildings on their way to the #OccupyBoston encampment at Dewey Square. The event was part of a global day of action for democracy.

  • Labor Teams Up with #OccupyBoston for Rally and March

    BOSTON - Organized labor teamed up with #OccupyBoston activists Thursday for a 3 p.m. rally at the Dewey Square encampment followed by a march to the Verizon Wireless store in Downtown Crossing to support Verizon workers in their fight for a union contract.

    The event pulled in over 250 attendees and speakers from a host of area unions, including Boston telecom workers’ International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2222, the Greater Boston Labor Council and Mass. Building Trades Council, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, SEIU Locals 1199 and 615, the Mass. Nurses Association, and the New England Regional Council of Carpenters. Three labor-community coalitions - Community Labor United, Jobs with Justice and MassUniting - also helped organize the event.

    BOSTON - Over 2000 #OccupyBoston participants and supporters - mostly students from dozens of area colleges and high schools - marched across Boston on Monday to spread word about the growing movement against corporate control of our democracy, and to demonstrate their displeasure about the crushing burden of student loans and a host of related issues. The event began at the Boston Common's Parkman Bandstand and went through the park to quickly protest outside the State House and Fox News. The march then proceeded to the #OccupyBoston encampment at Dewey Square via Downtown Crossing where it met with about 100 union members from several local unions and the labor-community coalitions Jobs with Justice and MassUniting.

    BOSTON/Dewey Square - The Tuesday 10/11/11 #OccupyBoston General Assembly opened with a representative sampling of experiences from the scene early yesterday morning, when Boston Police arrested over 100 protesters in response to the expansion of their Dewey Square encampment to an adjacent small park on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Feelings of disenfranchisement as well as hope were expressed as General Assembly participants shared their stories.

  • Over 100 #OccupyBoston Activists Arrested After Attempting to Expand Their Encampment to a Second Park

    BOSTON/Dewey Square - At 1:30 a.m. this morning, elements of the Boston Police Department, Transit Police and the Massachusetts State Police - with assistance from the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department - arrested approximately 100 protestors who engaged in non-violent civil disobedience in defense of a second encampment started by #OccupyBoston activists adjacent to their existing Dewey Square encampment yesterday on a stretch of the Rose Kennedy Greenway bounded by Purchase St., Pearl St., Congress St. and Atlantic Ave.

    BOSTON/Dewey Square - About 40 activists from United for Justice with Peace and allied anti-war organizations held a standout yesterday in front of the #OccupyBoston encampment in Dewey Square to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the US invasion of Afghanistan. The organizers called for the immediate withdrawal of all troops from Afghanistan, and expressed solidarity with the broad aims of the #OccupyBoston movement.

  • 125 Northeastern Students Rally in Support of #OccupyBoston, 60 March to Dewey Square

    BOSTON/Dewey Square - About 20 people from the Dewey Square #OccupyBoston encampment marched from South Station to Northeastern University this morning to demonstrate unity with the nationwide student walk-out that took place today at noon. The event was organized by the #OccupyBoston Direct Action working group in conjunction with student activists at Northeastern.

    The Direct Action working group called the march to support and attract college students to the encampment in Dewey Square. The welcoming of students into the #OccupyBoston movement is a critical goal for organizers.
