Ford Hall Forum Hosts Discussion of AIDS and Social Justice
BOSTON/Downtown Crossing - This Thursday September 30th Ford Hall Forum - in cooperation with Suffolk University and the Old South Meeting House - is sponsoring a public conversation on "AIDS Social Justice and the Politics of Transformation." Given that the war economy and upcoming elections have bumped HIV and AIDS off the cultural radar this is a good time to assess where society and science stand on eradicating (or at least slowing) this disease. Speakers include Guillermo Chacon of the Latino AIDS Commission; Kevin Cranston Director of the Massachusetts Bureau of Infectious Disease; Dazon Dixon Diallo President of SisterLove; and Julie Davids Founder and Co-Director of CHAMP (Community HIV/AIDS Mobilization Project. Rebecca Haag President and CEO of AIDS Action Committee will moderate the discussion. Among the many topics discussed panelists will look at the ways in which AIDS service organizations "are transforming themselves to follow a more radical approach to addressing the real social justice issues behind the disease" according to the Forum's website. The Old South Meeting House is located at 310 Washington Street in Downtown Crossing. The Forum begins at 6:30 and is always free and open to the public. A question and answer period will follow presentations by the invited speakers. This past Sunday Marc Stern and Dave Goodman of "RADIO with a VIEW" spoke to Rebecca Haag and Ford Hall Forum Executive Director Jennifer Bonardo about the forum and the state of AIDS in Massachusetts.
