Critically Exploring Science and Technology

UMass Boston now has a new program that explores the social, economic, and political dimensions of science and technology in our ever-changing world. So often we end up as the consumers of science and rarely are we encourage to question where do new drugs, technologies, or scientific knowledge come from. Offering both a masters and graduate certificate, the Science in a Changing World program seeks to connect those with scientific knowledge to communities of practice and change agents.

BOSTON - From personalized genomics to measurements of sea-level rise, from al Qaeda websites to citizen technology-assessment panels, from brain-based education to labor-saving inventions for use in developing countries, social and scientific changes are intertwined. "Science in a Changing World," a new graduate track at UMass Boston prepares students to participate in questioning and shaping the direction of scientific and social changes, as well as to teach and engage others to participate in this important endeavor.

Cambridge, MA - Prof. Pardis Sabeti of the Center for Systems Biology and the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University gave a fascinating lecture on Evolution in the Post-Genomic Age on February 26, 2009, at the Geological Lecture Hall at the Harvard University Museum of Natural History in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the United States to a full house of over 150 people. The event was part of Harvard University's celebration of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth.

Cambridge, MA - Dr. Andrew Berry, research associate at Harvard University’s Museum of Comparative Zoology, was amusing and informative in the role of Charles Darwin, in "An Afternoon with Charles Darwin" on Sunday at the Geological Lecture Hall at the Harvard University Museum of Natural History. The performance was part of Harvard University's celebration of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth. Over 150 people of all ages were in attendance.
