NCMR Beams Into Boston
BOSTON/South Boston - In 1999 author and media scholar Bob McChesney published the book "Rich Media Poor Democracy: Communications Politics In Dubious Times." This weekend more than two thousand activists government officials journalists artists and media consumers have joined McChesney at Boston's Seaport World Trade Center to discuss those "communication politics and dubious times." So far the consensus at the Free Press sponsored National Conference on Media Reform seems clear: as much as technology has changed in more than ten years - remember when cell phones were used to just make phone calls - national communication policy still favors "corporate interests over the public good." Here's a brief audio mix of some of the speakers during the first day of the conference Friday April 8th: OMB Audio Economist Joseph Stiglitz Columbia University; Chi Chi Wu National Consumer Law Center; Hakim Bellamy Save the Internet Town Hall Meeting Nov. 2010 "Open Letter to the FCC;" Michael Copps FCC Commissioner; House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi Laura Flanders Host and Producer of "Grit TV."
