Annual Freedom Rally Celebrates 21st Birthday With Tributes To Decriminalization Laws And The Joys of Smoking Marijuana
BOSTON/Boston Common - The Massachusetts Cannabis Reform Coalition (MASSCANN) held it's annual celebration of "all things marijuana" this past Saturday, as thousands gathered on the Boston Common to smoke, listen to music and speeches, and rally support for the legalization of the drug.
Two people were arrested and charged with distributing pot and police issued slightly more than thirty citations for possession.
Since the law was changed eighteen months ago, following a statewide referendum, holding an ounce or less of marijuana now carries a civil penalty. Prior to January 2009, possession of small amounts was considered a criminal misdemeanor.
