June 28th: Environmental Justice in the 'Hood
WHAT: Alternatives for Community and Environment (ACE) is hosting Environmental Justice in the 'Hood a street festival to celebrate the past present and future of Dudley Square. Visions of a new Dudley are being drawn and discussed by everyone from private developers to the Mayor himself. Community residents and local businesses have led the revitalization and cleanup of Dudley which has suffered for years from disinvestment pollution and crime. New development may threaten to displace some of the people who have fought so hard for this community. Based in Dudley since 1995 ACE is working with our neighbors to participate in decision-making affecting Dudley’s future. ACE’s environmental justice vision for Dudley includes not only a clean and healthy environment but one in which current residents and locally owned businesses can stay and thrive. Festivities include: · Public art project envisioning the future of Dudley Square · Environmental justice tours: What residents are doing to combat hazardous waste sites youth violence and air pollution · Music spoken word and dance performances · Family-friendly games food and entertainment WHERE: Blair’s Lot Dudley Square Roxbury Across the street from ACE's office at 2181 Washington Street WHEN: Saturday June 28 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. WHO: ACE is an integral part of Roxbury's vibrant Dudley Square neighborhood.
