May 5th: Connect the Dots - Climate Impact Day

The “winter that wasn’t” in Boston, tornadoes ripping through Springfield, hurricanes ravaging Vermont, record-breaking heat waves in Russia, wildfires in Australia, floods in Thailand: when do isolated incidents start to form a pattern? Every time we hear about another weather anomaly or unprecedented natural disaster, it becomes increasingly clear that climate change is not a future problem — it’s happening right now.
Calling attention to how climate change is already affecting us is the purpose of 350.org’s “Connect the Dots – Climate Impact Day,” an international day of protest and education designed to shine a spotlight on the connections between extreme weather and climate change.

Dozens of communities in Massachusetts are organizing events for the morning of May 5, and many of those activists will come together in the afternoon for a big group photo, during the annual “Wake Up the Earth” festival in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood.

At the festival, volunteers will join with Boston Climate Action Network to perform a Connect the Dots street theater using baseball players and their families to show the links between climate impacts in the Caribbean islands, at Red Sox training camp in southern Florida, and in New England. Volunteers don’t need any special skills, just a willingness to pitch in as they’re able.

Join us this Saturday, April 28, at 4pm at Mass Energy at the Brewery on Amory Street, as actors, musicians, and set-, costume- and prop-makers work together to make this popular theater fun and accessible. We’re especially seeking bilingual actors so we can highlight the experiences and insights of Caribbean immigrant communities in Spanish!
