Cambridge, Mass. - Forty people gathered in Harvard Square yesterday evening for a march and rally to protest the arrest of Jason Freedman, a member of the Industrial Workers of the World union, by the Cambridge Police at a legal picket Thursday night in front of Insomnia Cookies store on Mt. Auburn St. Freedman was charged with assault and battery of a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Cambridge, Mass. - A picket outside Insomnia Cookies in Cambridge resulted in the arrest of a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) union Thursday night.

Jason Freedman was arraigned at Cambridge District Court in Medford Friday morning in a brief hearing by the court’s First Judge, Roanne Sragow.

Charged by Cambridge Police for assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, Freedman called the allegations “ridiculous.”

BOSTON/Dorchester - Around 600 members and supporters of the Boston Public Schools’ Bus Drivers’ Union, Local 8751 of the United Steelworkers, some from as far afield as California, Washington state, Baltimore, and New York, rallied at the Freeport bus yard on Dorchester Avenue in Boston Saturday.

Malden Bakery Cited by Federal Agency for Safety Lapses that Contributed to Worker’s Death

Malden, Mass. - Malden-based Piantedosi Baking Company was recently cited and penalized by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) for safety lapses that contributed to the death of an employee.

Yogambigai Pasupathipillai, a 61 year old Sri Lankan immigrant, died after being strangled when her apron became caught in a conveyor belt at the bakery during the afternoon of August 15.

“Chilling” of Union Campaign by Contractor Alleged at Logan Airport

BOSTON/South Boston - A Logan Airport ground-service contractor is being sued by a former employee who claims he laid off for his role in a union-organizing campaign.

Raymond Maldonado from Mattapan is an organizer with an SEIU Local 32BJ airport campaign, and worked as a ramp agent for Michigan-based company, Ground Services International (GSI), until he was let go in March.
