Over 100 #OccupyBoston Activists Arrested After Attempting to Expand Their Encampment to a Second Park

BOSTON/Dewey Square - At 1:30 a.m. this morning, elements of the Boston Police Department, Transit Police and the Massachusetts State Police - with assistance from the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department - arrested approximately 100 protestors who engaged in non-violent civil disobedience in defense of a second encampment started by #OccupyBoston activists adjacent to their existing Dewey Square encampment yesterday on a stretch of the Rose Kennedy Greenway bounded by Purchase St., Pearl St., Congress St. and Atlantic Ave.

BOSTON/Dewey Square - About 40 activists from United for Justice with Peace and allied anti-war organizations held a standout yesterday in front of the #OccupyBoston encampment in Dewey Square to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the US invasion of Afghanistan. The organizers called for the immediate withdrawal of all troops from Afghanistan, and expressed solidarity with the broad aims of the #OccupyBoston movement.

BOSTON/Dewey Square - About 20 people from the Dewey Square #OccupyBoston encampment marched from South Station to Northeastern University this morning to demonstrate unity with thenationwide student walk-out that took place today at noon.

Wrapup: #OccupyBoston Encampment Day 3 Evening General Assembly Meeting

BOSTON/Dewey Square - Bringing the first full weekend of the 24-hour occupation of Dewey Square to a close the #OccupyBoston movement held a regular evening General Assembly yesterday. Over 350 people crowded into the space between the tents and the "stage" area - a grassy knoll abutting a large security camera-studded wall. Despite cold clammy weather the GA meeting was well-attended by full-time "occupiers " other movement activists and first-time attendees alike many of whom shared their goals for the movement's message over the course of the two hours.

BOSTON/Dewey Square - In less than 24 hours the Dewey Square site of the Occupy Together movement part of a grassroots protest spreading across the U.S. transformed from a muddy lawn strewn with tarp-covered supplies and a few dozen tents to a well organized village complete with designated media medical legal outreach tactical and spiritual space.

BOSTON/Dewey Square - Less than a week after their first gathering the fast-growing #OccupyBoston movement drew well over 1000 people - some of whom had just participated in the Right to the City Alliance's march on the Bank of America - to the launch of their encampment at Dewey Square and their Fourth General Assembly last night. Despite the large crowd of new participants organizers led the assembly through a full meeting - including their customary breakup into several working groups.

BOSTON/Financial District - Over 1000 people joined a march against Bank of America's regional headquarters in Boston's Financial District yesterday. The event was called by the Right to the City Alliance an urban movement for economic justice with member-organizations across the US. Several Boston-based organizations are involved in the alliance and have been hosting its national convention here his weekend including Alternatives for Community and Environment Boston Workers Alliance Chinese Progressive Association and City Life/Vida Urbana.
