Philips Subsidiary Allegedly Discriminated against Whistleblower who Claims Products Linked to Fires

Framingham, Mass. – Former Lifeline Systems salesperson Denise Rock is suing the company claiming that she was unfairly terminated for raising concerns over allegedly fatal product faults.

She claims the Philips subsidiary began discriminating against her when she reported to company attorneys that a medical alert device manufactured by another subsidiary, Health Watch, was likely the source of a fire that killed a number of users.

BOSTON/Theater District - Members of the Massachusetts Senior Action Council staged a rally in Boston Wednesday in protest against last year’s fare increase to the MBTA’s The Ride service, which they say was “extreme” and has now “imprisoned” seniors and people with disabilities in their homes. Around 100 people demonstrated near the Transportation Building at the corner of Charles St. South and Stuart St. Four members of the Council, along with its Executive Director, Carolyn Villers were then arrested following a planned protest in the street while sitting in a makeshift jail cell.

Peace Groups Hold Remembering Hiroshima Memorial in Cambridge

Cambridge, Mass. - Over 100 people participated in a "Remembering Hiroshima" procession and memorial on on Tuesday - which was the 68th anniversary of the United States dropping an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan during the Second World War. The event began with a march from Cambridge City Hall to the Brattle Square section of Harvard Square where a memorial was held. Several speakers addressed the crowd, including city officials and local peace activists. Attendees then screened the documentary "Hibakusha: Our Life to Live" at the Brattle Theater.

Convicted of 1981 Roxbury Murder Mark Jones Sues for Information He Says Proves His Innocence

BOSTON/South Boston - Mark Jones is still claiming his innocence for his part in the Roxbury shooting death of Brian Cropper in 1981 when he was aged just 19 years old.

Jones has filed a lawsuit seeking the release of information that he believes could exonerate him and also is claiming that he received poor legal representation in his case.

Panera Bread Sued by Ugandan Former Employee over Wages Discrimination and Sacking

BOSTON/South Boston - Outeke Kakooza has filed a lawsuit after his sacking from his job at Panera Bread alleging that he was wrongfully terminated, was the target of racial and disability discrimination, and wasn’t paid in full.

Employed as a night baker with the company for over five years, Kakooza came to the US from Uganda as a refugee with the assistance of the International Rescue Committee.

Cape Verdean Family Accuses Brockton Cops of Illegal Entry to Home Excessive Force; Trial Begins Today

Brockton, Mass. - Officers of the Brockton Police Department are due in court this week in a lawsuit that comes from their handling of a noise complaint in 2008.

A trial is set to begin next week after four family members launched a civil suit in November 2011 against the officers alleging warrantless entry, excessive force, indifference to medical needs, assault and battery, and arrest without probable cause.

If the jury finds in favor, the plaintiffs could be awarded punitive damages and compensation for injuries allegedly received as a result of the police action.

Cambridge, Mass. - It was right here on the steps of Cambridge City Hall, on May 17, 2004, where it all started. To the cheers of a crowd waiting eagerly outside, Cambridge opened its doors at the stroke of midnight on the day Massachusetts became the first state to cross the federal law of the land and allow same sex marriage.
