Somerville, Mass. - Somerville is going through changes. With the Green Line coming soon, the redevelopment of Union Square and new businesses moving into Assembly Square, property values are skyrocketing across the city.

This means that even though the residential tax rate this year is $12.61, slightly lower than last year, most residents will likely end up paying more in their base tax bill.

Cambridge, Mass. - Housekeepers at the Harvard-owned DoubleTree Suites by Hilton complain of injury at a far higher rate than their peers at other hotels. They are responsible for cleaning more rooms than their fellow housekeepers in the area. And, in a year and a half of asking, they have not been able to get DoubleTree management to agree to a fair process as they try to form a union.

Their response Thursday was a one-day strike.

Somerville, Mass. – Thousands of Brazilians from across four New England states hit the polls at Somerville High School to vote for Brazil’s next president on Oct. 26.

More than 8,000 people came to the Highland Avenue location from as far away as Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, and of course, from Somerville. Their votes helped narrowly reelect incumbent President Dilma Rousseff to another term.
