Even at this late hour it seems progressives do not understand the goal of Obamacare. They keep repeating the mantra (on every “liberal” talk show from Democracy Now to NPR’s On Point) that the cuts in Medicare will only be from the “wasteful” programs like Medicare Advantage.
The Massachusetts jobless rate is now at 9.1 percent and rising. Workers are increasingly frustrated by the mentality of "corporate greed" that has taken over their employers and the failure of our politicians and policy makers to address the growing jobs crisis.
With the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, the Greater Boston Labor Council, Jobs with Justice and the support of over 75 union and community co-sponsors, thousands of workers will march and rally on Thursday, October 1, 2009 demanding that corporations be held accountable for the good jobs our communities need.

BOSTON - Today is preliminary election day in Boston, Somerville, Chelsea, and other cities and towns in the greater metropolitan area. Mayors, Selectman, Alderman, City and School Council members throughout the Boston area are facing challenging races. That's good for democracy; especially in a state that consistently features the second greatest number of uncontested races in the country. Arkansas usually takes top billing in that category.
And yet, to state the facts bluntly in political parlance: "winner takes all" in all the races.
Supporters of the re-legalization of marijuana and relaxation of drug laws that make it illegal to smoke pot in public, held a joyful rally on the Boston Common on Saturday.
This year’s Freedom Rally and Hemp Fest – hosted by the Georgetown, MA based Massachusetts Cannabis Reform Coalition (MASS-CANN) marked the 20th year that marijuana proponents have celebrated their love for the “buzz” inducing plant and demanded changes in local, state, and federal laws governing its use.

CWA District One members showed strong union support for appointing a temporary interim Senator to fill Sen. Kennedy's seat at the Massachusetts legislature's Joint Committee on Election Laws hearing.
"With the passing of Sen. Ted Kennedy two weeks ago, Massachusetts has only one U.S. senator," said Don Trementozzi, President of CWA Local 1400. "This has left Massachusetts working families with only partial representation during critical fights in the Senate on health care reform and the Employee Free Choice Act." CWA Local 1400 members work at Verizon and AT&T.
Whether intentional or not, the liberal “single-payer” promoters have greatly confused the public by equating single-payer, universal health care coverage with “Medicare For All.” Ironically, it looks like they will get what they have called for; again, unintentionally.
