BOSTON/Dorchester - Two years ago, a duplex house on Norwell Street in the Four Corners neighborhood of Dorchester was foreclosed upon. The owner, who ran a daycare facility there was forced to close down. Tenants continue to live next door, not knowing if or when a constable from Housing Court will show up with eviction papers.

The property is now owned by Fannie Mae, the federal government sponsored mortgage enterprise, which has refused offers from a local non-profit to buy and renovate the house as part of a pilot neighborhood stabilization project.

BOSTON/Dorchester – The vacant two family house on Norwell Street in Dorchester stands as a reminder that the foreclosure crisis continues to haunt Boston. But starting on Saturday morning and continuing throughout the weekend, the house will be filled with the sounds of activists and media makers as Jamaica Plain based advocacy organization, City Life/Vida Urbana, occupies the property and commences a pirate radio broadcast of the proceedings.

BOSTON/South Boston – For the fourth consecutive year, an alternative St. Patrick’s Peace Parade was held in South Boston amidst continued controversy over the banning of certain groups from the main parade by its organizers. 

The Allied War Veterans Council (AWVC), which is based in South Boston and has organized the event since the 40s, has upheld its ban on a veterans’ peace group and LGBT groups, despite mounting pressure to make the parade more inclusive.

BOSTON/Dorchester - Over 50 members of Occupy UMass Boston - one of the many informal campus chapters of the Occupy movement that have sprung up around the United States - held a protest outside the inauguration of UMass president Robert Caret at the JFK Library on Tuesday. The students, staff and faculty present demanded a rollback of skyrocketing tuition and fees, a democratic process to replace the current UMass Boston strategic plan, and an end to the "corporatization and privatization" of public higher education in the Commonwealth.
