But the recession cannot become a free pass to exploit immigrant workers, the most vulnerable members of our community. The Chinese Progressive Association calls on our community to support small businesses that provide decent jobs to workers.

Americans Who Tell The Truth Event Features Historian and Icon Howard Zinn

Robert Shetterly, Maine-based painter and creator of the portrait book “Americans Who Tell The Truth” was joined by historian Howard Zinn on Friday for a program at Emerson College in Boston.

The student group Emerson for Peace and Social Justice hosted the event which featured many of Shetterly’s portraits of distinguished Americans. Following the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the artist began painting people he considers courageous for “speaking truth to power.”

Somerville Teachers Association Endorses H.R. 676 the National Medicare for All Bill

Somerville, MA - The Board of Directors of the Somerville Teachers Association (STA) voted to endorse HR 676 at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 7.

"Health care reform is finally on the national agenda," said Linda Vitiello, President of the Somerville Teachers Association. "We are excited to be part of a national grassroots movement for Medicare for All and H.R. 676 -- and to join with so many other labor organizations that support it."

Dear Bill Keller and Clark Hoyt – For the first time in the span of a generation, national health care reform is back on the horizon, and I’m writing to you to step back for a moment into the history of the Times’s reporting on health care reform. Last year I began a research project with two researchers from Harvard Medical School, Drs. David Himmelstein and Steffie Woolhandler, to look at the history of major state health reforms such as TennCare, the Oregon Health Plan, MinnesotaCare, and many others.

White Supremacists to Hold Event Around Boston this Weekend

This Saturday, April 11th, a white supremacist event called “Patriot Action” is scheduled to take place in the Boston area. The event, which is a concert, speaking event and fundraiser, is expected to draw over one-hundred Nazis, Fascists and white supremacists from all over the country to the Boston area.

The group hosting the event is East Coast White Unity, a Chelsea-based group under the leadership of Scott Clark, a long time white power organizer in the Northeast.

Jamaica Plain, MA - David Korten, author of the book, "When Corporations Rule the World," considered by many to be a must read for anyone interested in the contemporary rise in resistance to corporate power, spoke Sunday at the Jamaica Plain Forum.

Korten's current book, "Agenda for a New Economy: From Phantom Wealth to New Wealth," was written in response to the most recent economic meltdown.

Kerby Trevelus decapitated one of his sisters, stabbed another to death, and injured a third. Robert Stewart slaughtered eight people in a nursing home, and wounded another three. In the days leading up to the massacre of four police officers, Lovelle Mixon told relatives that he felt depressed and angry, an uncle noticing that he was emotionally withdrawn. Michael McLendon killed five family members and five other people before shooting himself. In the days leading up to the massacre, he told a friend that he was depressed. Tim Kretschmer murdered fifteen people before shooting himself.
